Shields. These shields can range from items as simple as a sheet of lead. Due to the energy we are working with in the PET area, the thickness of this lead has to be much more than what we are familiar with for Tc 99m. We must now get used of seeing a min. of 3/8" (1 cm) to as much as 1" (2.5 cm) depending on the activity we are working with. |
Dose and exposure rates are 6 times for positron-emitting isotopes than for the same activity of low-energy isotopes at the same distance. |

Dose Calibrator Shield. Standard dose calibrator shielding is 1/4"(6 1/3mm) of lead around the well assembly. This is not adequate. Supplemental shielding must be added. 2" lead interlocking rings are stacked around the chamber. |

Vial Shields. Pet Vial Shield for 10 cc vials. The new PET Vial Shield, available for 10cc and 20 cc vials, offer maximum protection with a .72" wall thickness of tungsten shielding. Vial access is achieved through the sliding top that exposes a small opening in the tungsten. Both the top and bottom of the shield unscrew for easy insertion and removal of the vial. An 8" handle on the vial shield gives the technologist even greater protection by allowing the hand a safe distance from the PET pharmaceutical. |

Drawing stations. This is a hi exposure area, therefore there are several methods of reducing the chances of exposure. There are manual and robotic drawing stations. If you are dealing with the output from a cyclotron, the robotic unit is advisable. If you are dealing with multi dose vials delivered to your department, you can use the manual drawing station. |

Dose Dispensing Station The 511 keV Dose Dispensing Station was created to provide a safe and convenient shielded working environment. It has been constructed to reduce exposure through excellent shielding and a design that limits the time and effort needed to draw a dose. (1) THE SPRING ARM The Dose Dispensing Station is constructed with the unique spring-arm feature to provide ease of positioning and effortless lifting of the 35 lb. Vial Shield into a drawing position. (2) THE 5 1 1 UNIVERSAL T-VIAL SHIELD A removable inner shield (T-VIAL) is made of tungsten and is equivalent to 1" (25.4 mm) of lead. The outer shield has 1" (25.4 mm) thick walls and is made of epoxy coated lead. (3)THE DOSE DRAWING SYRINGE SHIELD The complete Dose Dispensing System comes with a Dose Drawing Syringe Shield in 5 cc or 10 cc (please specify) sizes. This syringe shield has a tungsten flange to protect the user while drawing a dose and also twist locks into the dose drawing station. (4) THE 5 1 1 "L" BLOCK BODY SHIELD The 511 "L" Block Shield stands in front of the drawing station. Its front wall contains a 1" thickness of lead with an 8" x 8" x 4" glass. DOSE DISPENSING STATION This station can be assembled in about 10 minutes.

Drawing stations. The Amercare PET Automated Dose Dispenser has been developed to completely replicate the manual syringe & vial filling process. The key benefits include reduced finger dose, reduced risk of RSI and increased throughput while maintaining accuracy and repeatability. The PET ADD 3a is specifically designed for high activity 511keV Isotopes. It is designed to take heavily shielded syringes and vials. The standard design will allow for acceptance for your existing brand of syringes and both product and patient dose vials. The heavy duty PET ADD 3a has a central syringe and vial position, which will take three different sizes of syringe and is capable of handling shielding up to 20mm of tungsten. The central syringe position allows easy loading with remote manipulators or handling tongs. Syringe Shields. To reduce the weight and size, tungsten shields work well. Made of the same high density tungsten alloy as our popular Pro-Tec 11 and Pro-Tec III syringe shields, the new Pro-Tec PET uses .29" of tungsten shielding for protection from 511 keV nuclides.
